Garth Ennis' Dan Dare Omnibus is firstly, a fantastic tribute to Frank Hampson and Garth at his best. Dan Dare is pure of heart and British to the core, within the pages of this comic, I found bravery and honour plus a rip roaring story as Dan faces his greatest enemy in his twilight years.

Graphic Novels : The Authority, Kev
Kev Hawkins is probably the unluckiest or luckiest ex-SAS/Assassin that you could ever meet, depending on how you look at things. I guess, he isn't dead yet and he is a very effective killer, but calling the Midnighter and Apollo, a couple of phoofs wasn't the smartest move. The Authority, Kev is combination of Kev and More Kev, both stories are deliciously wicked with Kev homophobia balanced by the Midnighter's straight talking and equally nasty humour.

Graphic Novels : Marvel Zombies Return
I think Marvel missed a word out of the title, I believe it should be the "Marvel Zombies Triumphantly Return". The return of these vile zombie heroes is truly excellent as zombie Spider-Man is throw back into his swing sixties complete with art styling to match, we witness a different start to World War Hulk, Tony Stark's alcoholism and a brand New Avengers Team.
Graphic Novels : Ocean
Warren Ellis, Ocean should be a movie. I am not sure why it isn't, maybe the evil Doors Corporation with its operating system that blue screens devices was a little too close to truth to be a viable movie. If Ocean was a movie, I suspect Mr Samuel Jackson would have to play the UN Weapons Inspector Nathan Kane. Nathan is nothing but cool, calm and collected through-out the entire saga. Ocean has all the elements for great science fiction, a big bad, a remote space station, a secret that should remain buried and a race against the clock.
Graphic Novels : Superman Earth One
Yet another reboot, but it's not. Superman Earth One is the ultimate emo hero for our generation from the beginning I knew this re-imagining was going to be different. He is Superman, but he isn't 6'5" nor is he built like an American Football Player. He can do anything, he is smart, he is quick, he is strong, but is the Man of Steel ready to become the hero that his adopted parents Jonathan and Martha want him to be? It is the gentle touches and quiet changes to the legend that makes J. Michael Straczynski's version of this Superman, so very readable and its the changes that held my attention for every memorable panel.

Graphic Novels : Blackest Night, Black Lantern Corps Volume 1 & 2, Rise of the Black Lanterns
Blackest Night, Black Lantern Corps volume 1, 2 and the Rise of the Black Lanterns are collected experiences of DC's heroes and how they face off with the Black Lantern Corps. Volume 1 is includes Batman, Superman and the Titans.
Volume 2 covers the Flash, Justice Society of America and Wonder Women.

Graphic Novels : Blackest Night, Green Lantern
Blackest Night was a Marvel beater and the DC Universe as an undead plague, fantastic, but you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge as I have never read about the Lanterns' before, but a bit like the over the top approach used in Justice Society of America plus great writing, I was sucked me into the Blackest Night. Fortunately for DC profits, I now feel the need to read the whole saga.
Graphic Novels : Battle Pope, Pillow Talk & Wrath of God
More of Robert Kirkman's Battle Pope; Volume 3 deals with the sexual desires of the main man and added the addition of Santa, which includes a fantastic street brawl with Jesus.
Battle Pope, Volume 4, the Wrath of God, the last in series and this volume was quite weak. I think Kirkman was ready to move onto something new.

Graphic Novels : Battle Pope, Genesis, Volume 1
Kirkman, Kirkman. This is wicked, sacrilegious and will probably send all its readers to hell, but its so good! Puerile and funny, crude and clever, plus most importantly now in colour.
Graphic Novels : War Machine, Dark Reign
Jimmy Rhodes continues his crusade again evil. Dark Reign is the continuation and completion of the story started in Iron Heart. A bit like Iron Heart, I really enjoyed this comic, a school boy like pleasure at Norman Osbourne losing this round. I want more!
Graphic Novels : Dark Blue
Just for a second, I thought I was reading Life on Mars, but a gritter, more violent version and that was my first thought when reading Warren Ellis' Dark Blue. To be honest that was thought that continued through out the story, but it is good and doesn't disappoint, unlike the US version of Life on Mars!
Graphic Novels : Hitman, Ten Thousand Bullets, Volume 2
My favourite writer Garth Ennis takes on task of bring Tommy Monaghan to life. Ten Thousand Bullets consists of a couple of stories and fun interlude which covers the back stories and exploits of many of the characters featured. If you know Garth then you will know the humour is wicked and violence well placed.
Graphic Novels : Justice Society of America, The Next Age
It must be me, but I am always reading comics in reverse order. First, I read Thy Kingdom Come and now I have read the beginning The Next Age. Anyway, I really enjoyed this team building romp. Yet again, bright and intelligent, if not a little sweet. The 50s style combined with modern language is fantastic.

Graphic Novels : Ministry of Space
A massive "wow" for this comic. Ministry of Space is a what-if, the British beat the American into space and true Ellis style, the Ministry of Space delivers. The whole story is truly British and nothing seems out of place from the requirement of the first man in space to have his flight jacket and a leather chair, otherwise the mission is off and the alternate 1969 landing, but its not the moon, why think so small. The graphic novel ranks very, very highly with me and is a steal at £5 on Amazon.

Graphic Novels : Superman, True Brit
Let's get the important part out of the way, John Cleese, Brit Comedy Legend was involved in the creation of this graphic novel and I expect this is reason why Superman crash lands in Weston-super-Mare as its John's birth place. Anyway, this novel reminds me a lot of Jack Staff and like Jack, Superman is forced to be a true Brit. He grows up with a "what will the neighbours think?" attitude to the world. When he finally shows himself to the world, the gutter press build him up, just to knock him down. True Brit had me chuckle on a few occasions, but I was left with only one feeling at the end, Superman could never truly be a British Hero, he is too flashy for us.
Graphic Novels : Atmospherics
A very short black and white graphic novel by Warren Ellis. Atmospherics feel a bit like an episode of the Twilight Zone from the beginning nothing feels right and there is an uneasiness to the story. Worth a read, but don't pay a fortune as it is very short.

Warren Ellis' No Hero is a masterpiece, it tells a what-if story, a bit like Black Summer. The question is how corrupting in power? What would you do to stop it?
Graphic Novels : Secret Six, Unhinged
What it like to be a super villian in the DC Universe? Actually, its amazingly good fun, or that is how I feel about Gail Simones approach to the bad guys. A bit like Kingdom Come, the Secret Six is a DC must read.
Graphic Novels : The Authority, Under New Management
It is the end of the 20th century and Jenny Sparks is feeling her age, but do the Authority have enough time to stop the end of the world? Classically smart and intelligent, but I would expect nothing less from Warren Ellis.
