My Gaming History : Introduction and Grandstand Astro Wars

Introduction

I was thinking just the other day about my gaming history. How did I become a gamer? Where did my journey start? So, I guess it is only fair to share my story with internet and it begins here.

Grandstand Astro Wars(1981)

Christmas 1981 my parents purchased Grandstand Astro Wars, a simple shooter on the lines of the more famous Namco Galaga of the same year. Most importantly the screen gave the illusion of colour and this was achieved by a series of plastic filters placed over the white/red liquid crystal display as the invaders passed under each filter they changed colour, this was both clever and for the manufacture a cheap process.

The objective the game was simple destory all the invaders and avoid them and their bullets. What I can't remember was there was something odd about the high score, as I believe the highest score available was 10000, due to the display and chips. I also think the game ended at this score, if anybody can confirm, I would be insterested to know?
