As you can see from the picture, I have not had ACL(anterior cruciate ligament) reconstructive surgery. The reason, firstly my MRI was misleading and it was unlikely that I had actually completely snapped my ligament, secondly I have no instability apart from the initial traumas and thirdly the consultant who are due to the operation was part of research team working in Sweden. The teams research suggest that ACL surgery is not nessacary for Joe Average, ie; if I was a professional footballer and required the surgery to continued my career do it, otherwise improving muscle structure is safer than surgery and ACL may lead to increased risk of arthritis, not decreased as current research suggests. The paper explaining this change is due for release later this year. So, I am off the GYM to improve my muscle structure and no more football for me.
